Pita and a Plunge into the Unknown

3:46 PM Posted by Melissa

This is my view as I type this post from our air mattress. Except for boxes scattered about, and our dresser and our desk, there is very little in our apartment. This is the point where I start getting excited. Before any big move (and I've moved a lot -- not counting summer dwellings, this will be move #10), I really get into the packing! There's so much satisfaction in throwing/giving away bag after bag of old or unnecessary items. In finding the vase or pillow that perfectly fills in the remaining space in a box. In taping up the box and adding it to a neat stack. And I love change. New scenery is good for the soul. That's partly why I will always love teaching. Every year, a new batch of students, and the chance to do things differently with the class.

I got the suitcases out today. It's starting to feel real. In 8 days, we'll be at O'Hare. It's a surreal feeling, getting ready to board a plane for the other side of the world! Things are really starting to come together for us. Looks like I'll be teaching an English class for some pocket money and a discount on an Arabic class at the same establishment. Might also get to tutor refugees in their homes over the summer. Bill is running mic tests and experimenting with his multi-media paraphernalia. He hopes to hit the ground running with the organization he's volunteering with. A kind soul has offered to store our things. We have a reservation for the first few nights and someone meeting us at the airport. Thank you God for having things make sense at this point.

We'll be there soon enough. In the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy my pita and hummus and try to figure out what will fit exactly into this narrow space so I can get out the tape!
